Throughout her life, Claudia Miro has always answered her calling to help those in her community. It was that calling that guided her to a career in public service, beginning as a legislative aide in Tallahassee where she was instrumental in passing countless legislative initiatives to help benefit South Florida families. She continued her service, working with the South Florida Water Management District during some of the most active storm seasons in recent history and later at the City of Miami, where she gained valuable experience in the inner workings of municipal government that make her knowledgeable and well equipped to hit the ground running. In recent years, she’s held various positions within the Miami-Dade County administration, including the Mayor’s office and the Property Appraiser’s office where she saw firsthand the effect property taxes have on our residents and the importance of accountability and transparency in local government.
Today Claudia continues her service on behalf of our community and as a 15-year resident of Coral Gables, is active in our City Beautiful and has served on the Coral Gables Women’s Club, The Coral Gables Venetian Aquatic Club, The United Way of Miami-Dade and The Blue Line Angels. As a single Mom to her son Lucas (age 12), she has been part of the PTA at Coral Gables Preparatory Academy, has served as a classroom mom and is a tireless advocate for the North Coral Gables neighborhood she and Lucas call home, fighting for better parks and pedestrian safety.
When I first moved to Coral Gables, I was running from traffic and two-hour commutes. I remember walking along Miracle Mile, traveling through our beautifully canopied streets and exploring the natural splendor of our city; and feeling a sense of community and a quality of life that was present here like nowhere else. I knew then that there was no place I would rather live than the City Beautiful. A few years later, my son was born at home, where we still live today and I committed myself to raising him in Coral Gables and sharing with him the love and passion I have for our city. Lucas learned to swim at Venetian Pool with the Red Cross swimming program, he plays on the basketball team at the Coral Gables Youth Center. As my son grew and with him, my involvement in our community, I felt a sense of duty to protect our city so that my son and his generation, as well as future generations, could also experience all the wonderful things Coral Gables has to offer.
I began working in the public sector shortly after graduating from High School. I went on to pursue my Bachelors and Masters degree in Public Administration from Barry University. Public service was and continues to be my calling and I believe my experiences have brought me to this point in my life where I am ready to serve my city at a greater capacity as Coral Gables Commissioner. I am confident that my education, background, and professional exposure for the last 20 years in government, politics, and communications, have qualified me for the position I seek to fill and I know that my passion for my city and my commitment to the residents of Coral Gables will guide me in my decisions as Commissioner.
We live in the best city in Florida and you have my commitment that I will work tirelessly to ensure that the future of Coral Gables is a bright and prosperous one, where our canopied streets are lush, our waterways pristine and vibrant and our quality of life is second to none.
